Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- Khulna-5 constituency saw a closely contested race as Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar was defeated in the parliamentary election.
Golam Parwar, who contested with the party's electoral symbol 'Dandipalla' (scales), secured 144,956 votes.
The seat was won by BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asgar (Lobi), who contested with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. He received 147,658 votes.
According to the unofficial results, Asgar defeated Parwar by a margin of 2,702 votes.
The constituency witnessed a competitive battle between the two major contenders, with the final result reflecting a narrow difference in votes.
