Dhaka, Feb. 13 -- The Jatiya Party has suffered a comprehensive defeat in Rangpur, losing all six parliamentary seats in a region long regarded as its political heartland.

Party Chairman GM Quader finished third in Rangpur-3 (City Corporation and Sadar), underscoring the scale of the setback in what was once a reliable stronghold for the party founded by former military ruler HM Ershad.

Of the six constituencies in Rangpur district, Jamaat-e-Islami won five, while the National Citizen Party (NCP) secured the remaining seat, bdnews24.com reports.

The BNP failed to win any seat, though its candidates finished second in all six constituencies, in several cases by relatively narrow margins.
