Govt aims to lift solar power capacity to 10,000MW in five years
Bangladesh, July 20 -- Bangladesh plans to raise its solar power capacity to 10,000MW within the current government's term.
Power Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku called on non-government organisations (NGOs) to step up investment in the sector, speaking at a national workshop at Dhaka's Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Monday, bdnews24.com reports.
Tuku said expanding solar power would reduce fuel imports and free up funds for other development priorities.
"If we reach 10,000MW, our dependence on imported energy will fall, and the savings can be spent on other sectors."
