Dhaka, June 14 -- Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has been arrested in Dubai with the assistance of Interpol in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A senior official at the Police Headquarters confirmed the development on Sunday afternoon, as per local media reports.

Further details regarding the arrest and the legal process for his possible extradition to Bangladesh were not immediately available.

Benazir Ahmed, a former chief of the Bangladesh Police, has been facing multiple investigations and legal proceedings over allegations of corruption and accumulation of illegal wealth.

The ACC had previously filed cases against him as part of its ongoing anti-graft drive.
