Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- At least eight people were injured in a clash between activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Bagerhat's Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.

The incident took place in the Baruipara area around 10 pm.

Both parties traded blame over the cause of the clash.

Jamaat leaders alleged that activists of the paddy sheaf had gone out to distribute money among voters.

Local Jamaat men rushed to the area after getting the information and were attacked, they claimed.

At least six of their activists were injured in the incident.

BNP, however, alleged that Jamaat activists entered the area with money and leaflets.

An altercation broke out following a heated exchange of words, leaving two BNP men injured.
