Dhaka, May 20 -- Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) inaugurated drilling of an appraisal-cum-development well at Kamta gas field on Wednesday.

State minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Anindya Islam Amit inaugurated the spud-in operation of Kamta well no-2 at the well site.

Mohammad Mohsin, former Secretary and chairman of the BGFCL board of directors and Abdul Mannan, chairman of Petrobangla, were the special guests at the function.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mr Amit underscored the necessity to reduce foreign dependence and fully utilize domestic resources.

Currently, some 570 factories are waiting to get gas connected, where investments worth billions of taka remain stalled.
