Dhaka, May 25 -- With millions expected to leave Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the police authorities have announced sweeping traffic restrictions, including a temporary ban on heavy vehicles and one-way movement on key highways, in an effort to reduce congestion and maintain orderly travel during the holiday rush.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a six-day restriction on the movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries on highways to ensure smoother Eid travel and ease congestion around cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

According to a notification signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, the restrictions will be enforced in two phases - May 25-27 and May 29-31 - covering a total of six days.
