Dhaka stocks retreat as fuel-price hike, high rates weigh on sentiment
Bangladesh, Sept. 25 -- Dhaka stocks lost steam on Thursday as a fresh fuel-price shock, stubbornly high borrowing costs and renewed global oil-price volatility drove investors back to the sidelines after a two-day rally.

Market participants said the renewed weakness reflected a combination of higher domestic fuel prices, tight monetary conditions and renewed pressure from global oil markets.
The government's Tk 20-per-litre increase in fuel prices has emerged as a fresh concern for the equity market, as higher transport, production and distribution costs could squeeze profit margins.
