Ctg port protection committee threatens complete shutdown
Bangladesh, Oct. 6 -- CHATTOGRAM, Oct 05: Leaders of the Chattogram Port Protection Committee have threatened to shut down operations at the country's prime seaport if the government signs any agreement to hand over the operation of New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) to a foreign operator.
The committee issued the warning on Monday during a daylong sit-in in front of the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) building, demanding cancellation of the proposed 15-year concession agreement for operating and maintaining NCT and its Overflow Container Yard (OCY).
Coordinator of the committee Ibrahim Khokon warned that the port would be completely shut down as soon as any agreement on NCT is signed.
