Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has capped the highest level of trans fatty acids in manufactured food items to 2.0 per cent for the sake of safeguarding public health.

Advertisement Trans fatty acids, also known as trans fat, is responsible for raising bad cholesterol and lowering good HDL cholesterol resulting in increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.

As per the BSTI move, manufacturers must restrict the use of Trans Fatty Acid (TFA) in different processed food items including edible oil, decorated cake, chips and chanachur.
