Bangladesh, Sept. 4 -- Two children have drowned in a pond beside their home in Mymensingh's Gafargaon Upazila on Friday.

Advertisement The incident took place around noon in Palaikanda village of Jashra Union, Gafargaon Police Station, Chief Mohammad Moniruzzaman said.

The dead were identified as Safa, 3, son of Mazharul Islam, and Saifana, 3, daughter of Nurul Islam, both from the same village. They were cousins.

Relatives said that when it started raining around noon, the two children went outside and were playing together in the yard. At one point, they apparently slipped away unnoticed and fell into the pond beside the house.
