Dhaka, Feb. 11 -- A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Biman Bangladesh Airlines' former managing director and chief executive officer Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman on a five-day remand in connection with a case filed on charge of torturing their minor house help.

It also granted a seven-day remand for Shafiqur's wife Bithi; five-day for accused Rupali Khatun, and six-day for accused Sufia Begum.

Judge of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, Md Zakir Hossain, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by SI Rubel Miah, an investigator of the case.

SI Tahmina Akter of Uttara West Police Station confirmed the update.

Following Shafiqur's imprisonment, the government on February 4 cancelled his contractual appointment.
