BD must boost R&D investment to compete globally: Khosru
Bangladesh, Aug. 25 -- Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Monday called for greater investment in research and development (R&D) to help Bangladesh compete for global market share, foreign direct investment (FDI), and high-value employment.

Bangladesh currently spends only around 0.3 per cent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on R&D, one of the lowest rates among peer middle-income countries, including South Korea, China, India, and Vietnam, he said.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the Bangladesh Industry Research, Development and Innovation (BIRDI) Grants Awarding Ceremony at a hotel in the capital.
