Dhaka, April 29 -- The government has set a target of recruiting 0.5 million employees over the next five years to fill vacancies in public administration.

To this effect, the government has adopted short-term (180 days), medium-term (one year) and long-term (five years) action plans.

Recruitment to fill up 2,879 vacant positions is already underway under the 180-day programme as part of a structured roadmap, aimed at strengthening service delivery and administrative efficiency.

These were revealed at the weekly press briefing by the information adviser to the prime minister Zahed Ur Rahman at the information ministry in the secretariat on Tuesday.
