US General Confirms Ukrainian F-16's First Air Kill Against Russian Su-35 Near Luhansk
New Delhi, July 23 -- "Recently, we had the first air-to-air kill where a Ukrainian F-16 shot down a Russian fighter." No location. No missile type. No pilot's name. No footage.
The date was July 8, according to the Ukrainian Air Force's own statement released alongside Caine's comment. The location was eastern Ukraine, near the Luhansk front. The aircraft were a Ukrainian F-16 Fighting Falcon and a Russian Sukhoi Su-35, two fourth-generation multirole fighters. Their contest over Ukraine, if the claim stands, was far from the equal engagement those designations imply.
