New Delhi, July 30 -- Nobody in Hall H knew what they were looking at. Robert Downey Jr. walked onto the stage on Saturday, and the crowd that had spent years mourning Tony Stark found itself staring at Victor Von Doom.

Downey's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was not a resurrection of the man who snapped half the universe back into existence. It was something stranger. He is the franchise's new central antagonist, dressed in iron-green armor and carrying the history of a different Marvel character entirely. Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo in their first Marvel film since Endgame, opens December 18, 2026.
