Jackson Koivun, 21, Silences the Gallery and Wins the 3M Open in His Third Professional Start
New Delhi, July 31 -- BLAINE, Minn. - On the 18th fairway at TPC Twin Cities, the gallery started calling it out. "Scottie's coming," they said, loud enough that Jackson Koivun could hear every word. Behind him, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had just posted a back-nine charge that had the Sunday leaderboard lurching.
Koivun, 21 years old and six weeks removed from the amateur ranks, heard them. He parred the 18th anyway.
By the time the scores were final, the 3M Open belonged to Koivun at 25-under par, a tournament record, three strokes clear of Scheffler, who closed with an 8-under 63 that would have won on almost any other Sunday this season.
