New Delhi, July 15 -- NEW YORK - Thirty years of settled daytime television hierarchy shifted Tuesday morning when the nominations for the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards placed Beyond the Gates, a CBS soap opera that premiered this January, in direct contention with some of the genre's oldest institutions.

The show - the first new daytime drama to air on a major broadcast network in nearly three decades - collected 15 nominations in its debut Emmy season, more than General Hospital, which earned 13 and is chasing an unprecedented third consecutive Outstanding Drama Series win when the ceremony takes place October 30 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
