Beshear Demands McConnell Prove Capacity to Serve or Resign
New Delhi, July 29 -- FRANKFORT - Gov. Andy Beshear gave Senator Mitch McConnell an ultimatum on Tuesday, demanding that the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican either speak publicly to demonstrate his fitness to serve or resign, closing off the corridor of ambiguity that McConnell's office has occupied since the senator's cardiac emergency six weeks ago.
"I am calling on you to directly and verbally address the people of Kentucky and provide proof of your capacity to speak, reason, and carry out your duties," Beshear wrote in a letter addressed simultaneously to Senate Majority Leader John Thune. "If you cannot, I am calling on you to resign."
