Tanzania, April 29 -- Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has secured a $1.277 billion (about Sh3.3 trillion) syndicated financing package to advance construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), covering Lots 3 and 4 from Makutupora to Isaka.
The agreement, signed on April 28, 2026, involves export credit agencies from Italy (SACE), Sweden (EKN) and Poland (KUKE), with Standard Chartered Bank acting as the lead arranger.
Officials said the funding underscores growing international confidence in Tanzania's economic management and its ability to implement large-scale infrastructure projects.
