Tanzania, Aug. 12 -- Dar es Salaam. Veteran politician Joseph Butiku has urged Tanzanians to give the new inquiry into the October 2025 election-related violence an opportunity to establish the facts, saying this will help the country understand what happened and find a way out of the dispute.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Mr Butiku, who is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, said one of the most important questions the inquiry should answer was who was responsible for the violence.

"The question is, who caused the violence? It is an important matter. How do you know? How does the President know? How do I know?" he said.
