Bangladesh, June 18 -- The airline said the new fare is entirely optional and is being trialed on selected domestic routes.

Passengers can continue to choose from the existing Value, Classic, and Flex fare categories, all of which include complimentary meals along with additional bundled benefits.

The introduction of the Basic fare marks one of the first major changes to Air India's service offerings since its privatization in January 2022.

Traditionally, full-service airlines have included complimentary meals as part of the ticket price, while low-cost carriers typically charge separately for onboard food and beverages.
