India, Aug. 15 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India has set an ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 as he addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. He highlighted India's progress over the past 12 years and said the country has emerged as a major and the fastest-growing economy in the world.

PM Modi said that the efforts and determination of crores of citizens have helped India overcome several challenges and move towards new heights. He noted that 25 crore people have come out of poverty during this period. He also highlighted India's progress in energy security, manufacturing, technology and infrastructure.
