India, June 1 -- Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a major sit-in protest on June 2 at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Esplanade, Kolkata, against alleged post-poll violence and repeated attacks on TMC leaders. The announcement comes just days after TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly roughed up by a mob in Sonarpur on May 30. Stones, eggs, shoes, and blows were hurled at him while he was visiting the family of a post-poll violence victim. Abhishek sustained injuries and later alleged it was a "state-sponsored" attack.
