India, April 12 -- The curtain has fallen on one of the most iconic voices in Indian music. Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, leaving behind an unmatched legacy that reshaped Hindi playback singing and transcended generations.

Asha, who carved her own path despite growing up in the towering shadow of her sister Lata Mangeshkar, died due to multi-organ failure, confirmed Dr. Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital. She had been admitted on Saturday evening following complications arising from a chest infection and exhaustion, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle said.
