New Delhi, April 28 -- Bengaluru-based IT services firm Sonata Software has appointed Rajsekhar Datta Roy as Chief Executive Officer for its international business, effective May 9, 2026, for a three-year term, as the company sharpens its focus on AI-led modernisation.

Roy, a long-time executive at the company, currently serves as Chief Delivery Officer and is a member of its leadership team. He will take over following the exit of Managing Director and CEO Samir Dhir, whose term ends on May 8, 2026. Dhir has also stepped down as Executive Director and will continue as an advisor to the board until December 31, 2026.

The appointment comes as Sonata repositions itself as an AI-first engineering firm. Roy has played a key role in this transition, including advancing the company's Responsible-first AI approach and leading the development of its Harmoni.AI platform, while also helping expand its Microsoft and Dynamics practices into large, industry-focused offerings.

With over three decades of experience, Roy has led global delivery organisations and large-scale digital transformation programmes across product engineering and enterprise systems. As Chief Delivery Officer, he oversaw global delivery and operations while steering the company's shift towards an AI-first delivery model.

Srikar Reddy, executive vice chairman of the company, said Roy's elevation reflects the board's confidence in his leadership and technology vision, adding that his deep understanding of the business would help drive innovation and strengthen its position as a trusted partner.

Rajsekhar Datta Roy said he would focus on strengthening core capabilities and accelerating the company's AI-led strategy, adding that Sonata would continue to position itself as a strategic partner to clients in their AI-driven modernisation journeys.

Sonata said the leadership transition is aimed at ensuring continuity while accelerating its global growth strategy, particularly in AI, cloud and platform-led services. The company, which reported over $1.2 billion in revenue, has been strengthening partnerships with global technology firms such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Salesforce and Snowflake to expand its enterprise AI offerings.

The company added that Roy will focus on scaling international operations and deepening client engagements as enterprises increase investments in AI-driven transformation.
