New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- Rainwater Labs has launched Dew, a free AI assistant built from the ground up for children, and is calling it the world's first child-first large language model. Available today, Dew is designed to be the AI that kids actually start with: one made for how children learn and stay safe, rather than an adult chatbot with a child mode switched on.

The timing is deliberate. AI has gone from novelty to daily habit for young people faster than almost any technology before it, and the market is scrambling to keep up. The global market for AI in education, worth roughly eight billion dollars in 2025, is projected to grow into the tens of billions within the decade, with Asia-Pacific the fastest-growing region. India sits at the centre of that story: home to one of the world's largest student populations, with more than 250 million schoolchildren, and a national policy actively pushing AI and digital skills into classrooms. Yet almost all of the AI these children use today was built for adults.

That gap, Rainwater Labs argues, is the need of the hour. Children are already turning to AI for homework, curiosity and company, mostly on tools never meant for them. The company's bet is that the next wave of AI will not be one-size-fits-all, and that children, the largest and most vulnerable group of new AI users, deserve a model of their own.

Dew is built around two simple ideas. First, it is safe by design: its protections are part of the system itself, so they hold even when a child, or someone else, tries to push past them, and without a parent having to watch every screen. Second, it teaches rather than tells: instead of just handing over answers, Dew guides a child through a problem with questions until they get there, then confirms the full solution, so they learn instead of copy.

It is free, runs in any web browser with nothing to install, works on modest phones, speaks Indian languages, and is hosted in India in line with the country's data-protection law.
