Sri Lanka, May 10 -- The Colombo Additional Magistrate's Court ordered the remand of Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera until May 12 after he was arrested on allegations of rape and child abuse involving a 15-year-old girl.

The Thera was taken into custody by the Nittambuwa Police on the night of May 8 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

According to Police Media, the arrest was carried out at around 11.45 p.m. at the private hospital in Colombo.

The suspect was later produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate, who examined him at the hospital premises due to his medical condition.

Court officials said that the Thera will be produced before the Anuradhapura court on May 12.
