TRC reinstates special investigative unit
SriLanka, July 5 -- The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has reinstated a special investigative unit that had remained inactive since 2022, to strengthen regulatory oversight of the telecom sector.
TRC Director General, Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath said the revived unit will handle inquiries related to both financial and technical matters within the industry.
He said officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have also been attached to the unit, with their deployment taking effect from yesterday. One of the unit's key responsibilities will be to identify and take legal action against mobile phone vendors operating without valid licences issued by the TRC.
