Sri Lanka, Feb. 8 -- The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said that investigative agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department and the Computer Crimes Investigation Unit, should not entertain complaints related to defamation.

The Commission has made this recommendation based on the tendency of politicians, social activists and influential persons to complain to the Criminal Investigation Department or other specialised units of the Sri Lanka Police, including the Computer Crimes Investigation Unit, regarding alleged false or defamatory statements made about them on various media platforms, including the Internet.
