Srilanka, Aug. 16 -- The Government has fast-tracked proposals to alleviate prevailing issues in prisons including overcrowding following a series of recent incidents in prisons countrywide. Subsequently, the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed a Special Committee to look into and report on overcrowding in prisons and other pertinent issues.

The Committee was appointed following a Cabinet Paper presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake last week.
