SriLanka, Sept. 13 -- Sri Lanka is targeting completion of its mine-clearance programme by 2032, with 20.5 square kilometres of contaminated land remaining to be cleared, according to the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC). The remaining contaminated area is equivalent to 20.5 million square metres, or roughly half the total land area of the Colombo District, according to Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Dr. Susil Ranasinghe.

The clearance programme, implemented by the NMAC, has so far cleared more than 232 square kilometres of contaminated land across the country.
