Srilanka, Nov. 23 -- Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha said strong people-to-people connections between the two countries augurs well for the promotion of tourism between the two neighbours.

He was speaking at an India-Sri Lanka Tourism Relations program in Colombo last week.

"India is Sri Lanka's largest source of tourists with over 400,000 travellers travelling to the island last year and 430,000 up to October this year accounting for about 23% of the total travelers to the country during that period," the High Commissioner said.

India was the top source market with 420,033 arrivals, making up roughly 22.3% of Sri Lanka's total 1,878,557 tourists.
