Sri Lanka, July 19 -- An investigation has been launched by the Western Province (South) District Crime Division into the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne on a directive by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya. Wickramaratne died on Friday (17) after sustaining a gunshot injury at his residence on Parakrama Road, Talahena, Malabe. Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F. U. Wootler told the Sunday Observer that the former IGP was admitted to the Colombo East Teaching Hospital after sustaining the injury at his home.

"The cause of death has not yet been determined. An investigation is under way," ASP Wootler said.
