Srilanka, Sept. 27 -- The killing of senior journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge was not merely an act intended to eliminate one person, but a warning to other journalists and professionals who were prepared to challenge politicians, corruption and powerful interests, Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Director General Ranga Dissanayake said.

Dissanayake was speaking at the launch of the Sinhala translation of Lasantha, a book written by Raine Wickrematunge and translated by Kasun Pussewela held on Friday. Dissanayake said the killing sent a broader message to journalists to remain within accepted boundaries, report without challenging powerful interests and "not try to bring about change".
