Judges' retirement age proposal Opposed at no-quorum meeting
Srilanka, July 12 -- Judges who attended a hastily convened Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Judicial Service Association (JSA) yesterday voted against the proposal to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court Judges, even as JSA President Magistrate Pasan Amarasena resigned in protest over the legality of the meeting.
The SGM, held at the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court premises, was attended by only 65 judges out of more than 250 members, resulting in a "no-quorum" situation. All those present voted against the proposal.
