Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- The Government is closely monitoring a sprawling cybercrime network involving Chinese nationals operating within the country, amid growing fears that the illicit activities could seriously undermine national security and the economy, officials said.
Intelligence sources said that the operation bears disturbing similarities to the "Golden Triangle" cybercrime syndicates that have engulfed Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. There are rising suspicions that these networks, already accused of seizing control of over 60 percent of Cambodia's GDP through digital fraud, are now attempting to replicate their grip in Sri Lanka this time targeting key sectors, including the country's prized Port City development.
