Sri Lanka, Aug. 23 -- Sri Lanka's economy is on track for major gains by the year-end, with some goals even exceeding the set targets, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Anil Jayantha Fernando told the Sunday Observer.

In an exclusive interview on the "Hello Lake House" podcast, Minister Fernando said that the Inland Revenue Department, Sri Lanka Customs and the Excise Department are all expected to exceed their revenue targets for this year, repeating a feat achieved in 2025.

"The first quarter showed that, even amid the conflict in the Middle East, economic growth was around five per cent," the Minister said, adding that a higher growth rate could have been feasible under normal circumstances.
