Srilanka, July 26 -- Excavation work at Sri Lanka's largest mass grave site has been temporarily halted once again to allow the forensic and excavation teams a necessary respite, following more than a year of intensive field operations.
Lawyer V. S. Niranjan who represents the victims told the media that 479 out of the 480 human skeletons identified at the site including those of young children have been exhumed so far. The complex operation at the Chemmani Sitthupathi mass grave has spanned 96 working days across three distinct phases since excavations initially commencing on May 15, 2025.
