New Delhi, May 27 -- 'Special Intensive Revision of voter lists breathes life into Constitution'

In a major setback to Opposition parties, the Supreme Court (SC) this morning upheld the Election Commission of India's (ECI) authority to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi delivered the verdict on a batch of writ petitions challenging the ECI notification issued in June last year for conducting the SIR exercise in Bihar.
