It has recently come to public attention that 561 trees are proposed to be cut down in Mysuru. This is deeply concerning, especially when we are taught the importance of protecting nature, yet continue to witness large-scale tree loss.
Hyder Ali Road is a clear example. Once a vibrant, tree-lined stretch offering shade and supporting street vendors, it has now become barren. This loss not only affects the city's beauty but also increases heat and impacts livelihoods. Mysuru is known for its tree-lined avenues, which are central to its identity. Cutting down trees on such a scale is environmentally irresponsible and will have long-term consequences on air quality and climate.
