Hyderabad, Nov. 4 -- Renowned US writer and activist Shaun King has called claims of Houthi attacks targeting Makkah a "shameful and disgusting lie", drawing a sharp rebuke from the social media account Inside the Haramain.

The controversy erupted after Imam of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, Sheikh Dr Ahmad al-Hudhaify, spoke about the Kingdom's efforts to serve the Two Holy Mosques and their pilgrims.

In a video shared by Saudi broadcaster Al Ekhbariya on Tuesday, November 3, the imam described Houthi attacks on the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah as one of the greatest forms of criminality.

Reacting to the video, King rejected the suggestion that any group had attempted to attack the two holy sites.
