Hyderabad, June 22 -- Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officials raided a jewellery shop in Hyderabad's Abids area on Monday, June 22, and seized approximately 1.6 kilogram of gold for alleged violations of mandatory hallmarking norms.

The enforcement action was carried out under the directions of PV Srikanth, Director and Head of BIS Hyderabad branch office.

During the inspection, officials found gold jewellery being offered for sale without the mandatory hallmark, as well as jewellery bearing old hallmark markings, both violations of the BIS Act.

The seized stock included rings, necklaces and pendants. BIS officials have initiated further legal action against the establishment.
