Hyderabad, Nov. 7 -- In two separate raids in Alwal, excise officials seized 163 bottles of defence canteen liquor allegedly being sold illegally by two women, whose husbands were suspected of procuring the liquor through defence canteen quotas.

Officials said some retired defence personnel were allegedly purchasing liquor under their own and other beneficiaries' quotas at subsidised rates and selling it at higher prices through their wives.

In the first case, the Malkajgiri Excise Enforcement team searched the residence of Manyam Nagaprasanna and Ram Anjaneyulu in Saraswathi Nagar. The team seized 96 bottles.
