Hyderabad, April 2 -- The Telangana High Court on Wednesday, April 1, said that daughters and sons are equally responsible for taking care of ageing parents, especially while claiming rights on the property.

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy made the observation after hearing a petition filed by a 66-year-old woman from Suryapet district. The petitioner alleged that her son has neglected her and sought that her property be returned.

The woman is currently living with her daughter and informed the court that the authorities failed to implement an order passed in December 2025 under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
