Ujjain, Sept. 30 -- The Ujjain Police have arrested 20 people and registered first information reports (FIRs) against 30 in connection with Monday's violent clash that broke out following the removal of a portion of Shahi Masjid.

It has been almost a week since thousands of local Muslims began their protests against the demolition of the 600-year-old mosque, with the Ujjain Municipal Corporation maintaining it is a part of a road-widening project ahead of the 2028 Simhastha fair.

On Monday (September 28), the peaceful protests turned violent, with stones being pelted at the police and security personnel firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.
