New Delhi, Oct. 7 -- Public sector banks (PSBs) have sanctioned over 5.79 lakh loan applications worth Rs 10,907 crore under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), supporting households in installing rooftop solar systems.

The scheme offers collateral-free loans up to Rs 2 lakh, with simplified financing, and is processed digitally via the JanSamarth Portal. Key improvements include broader eligibility through co-applicants, the removal of capacity caps, and a streamlined documentation process.

The Department of Financial Services, in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, monitors loan progress to enhance implementation and outreach.
