India, Oct. 2 -- Rajesh Agrawal has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, effective October 1.

A 1994-batch IAS officer, Agrawal brings nearly 30 years of experience in governance and policy across various sectors including skilling and trade.

He has previously represented India in key trade negotiations, including agreements with the US and Australia. His administrative background includes significant roles in the skill development ministry and state postings in Manipur.

Agrawal is expected to influence India's commerce policies and enhance the country's global economic engagement.
