India, Sept. 23 -- The Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme is helping expand micro-irrigation across India with the objective of improving water-use efficiency and agricultural productivity. As of July 2026, more than 115 lakh hectares have been brought under micro-irrigation through the scheme. PDMC supports drip and sprinkler irrigation and provides financial assistance to farmers for installing micro-irrigation systems.

Agriculture accounts for a major share of India's water use, while irrigation facilities do not cover the entire net sown area.
