India Refining Capacity to Reach 300 MMTPA Amid Global Uncertainty: Puri
India, Aug. 21 -- India is expanding its oil refining capacity towards 300 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) amid uncertainty surrounding global refining capacity, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said. India currently has refining capacity of around 272 MMTPA and remains the world's third-largest refiner.
Puri said India's expanding refining capabilities strengthen its position as a dependable and stable energy partner, particularly across the Indo-Pacific. The country has 23 refineries processing nearly 270 million tonnes annually and remains a net exporter of refined petroleum products.
